Interview Dr. Upul in english
Dr. Upul Rajapaksha, chief physician at Thaulle Resort, explains how an Ayurveda cure in Sri Lanka works, which conditions Panchakarma can address and why one week is not enough.
An Ayurveda retreat is only as good as the team guiding you through it. At Thaulle Resort, a pure Ayurveda hotel in Sri Lanka, experienced Ayurveda doctors, qualified therapists, and a well-coordinated service team work closely together.
You do not receive a standard treatment, but medically structured support:
Thaulle is a pure Ayurveda resort in Sri Lanka, medically led and intentionally located in a quiet setting on Yoda Lake. You reduce stress, stabilize your sleep and digestion, and gradually regain new energy.

Who founded Thaulle Resort and why?
Thilak Wettimuni, hotel director and founder, combines European service quality with Sri Lankan calmness. After more than ten years in Germany, he developed the concept of a pure Ayurveda hotel – intentionally adults only. His values: health, sustainability, and regional connection belong together, not apart.

Who is medically responsible for your treatment?
Dr. Upul M. Rajapakshe is at the center of every retreat at Thaulle Resort. With more than 20 years of experience supporting European guests and more than 3,000 retreat guests personally cared for, he has extensive experience in treating German-speaking Ayurveda guests in Sri Lanka. He lives and works on site all year round and is available for you 24/7.
Your therapy plan is created on the basis of pulse diagnosis, a detailed medical history, and your individual symptoms. Every treatment is adjusted daily to your current condition.

Is nutrition part of the Ayurveda treatment?
Yes – consistently so. The Ayurveda kitchen at Thaulle Resort is not a gastronomic offering alongside the therapy, but an integral part of your retreat. Pemasiri Wickramaarachchi has led the kitchen for around 40 years. All meals are prepared according to your dosha, medically coordinated, and adapted to your current therapy plan. Every meal supports your treatment as part of your individual retreat plan.

Our Front Office Manager Shawn Peterson and his team ensure a structured, calm organization of your entire stay. German-speaking support is available throughout – from the initial inquiry to departure.
Our adults-only concept is not a luxury feature. It is a conscious therapeutic decision: no children’s entertainment, no family bustle, no acoustic disturbance during your stay. Only you, the silence, and your Ayurveda retreat.
The Thaulle reception warmly welcomes you.
Our therapists have solid professional training in Ayurveda therapy. With many years of practical experience in supporting international retreat guests, they offer you an Ayurveda retreat at a high professional level. Every treatment is carried out on medical instruction and is based on your individual therapy plan.
At the center of your treatment is a structured, medical therapeutic approach: classic Panchakarma procedures, specific detox treatments, oil applications, and heat therapies – individually tailored to your needs. The implementation is reviewed daily by Dr. Upul and adjusted when necessary.
Our team works mindfully, precisely, and responsibly – not according to a generic wellness concept, but according to clear therapeutic guidelines – with the goal of supporting your regeneration in a structured way.
