Between treatments, safari, temples, beach and nature are often just minutes away. Yala National Park (14 km), Kataragama (30 min), Kirinda Beach (10 min, complimentary shuttle at 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM) or a quiet walk at Yoda Lake – everything integrates well into your Ayurveda cure. A wildlife biologist is available as safari guide on request. All excursions, transfers and guides are organised by the resort.
Between treatments, there is more to discover around Thaulle than most guests expect from an Ayurveda hotel – if you wish.
You can experience nature, culture and quiet places within short distance of the resort without losing the calm rhythm of your Ayurveda time. Many destinations are only 10 to 30 minutes away. This creates small, well-planned experiences before the cure, after the cure or during suitable free time slots.
Practical details for your stay
Many guests report that in this atmosphere, they sleep through the night for the first time in years – not despite the quiet, but because of it. Your daily routine is clearly structured, without surprises:

Yala National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s most impressive national parks and lies just 14 kilometres from Thaulle Resort. Known for leopards, elephants, crocodiles and peacocks. Half-day and full-day tours integrate well into your Ayurveda schedule – before the cure, afterwards or on a free day.
Yala spans 1,500 km² and is home to over 30 mammal species and 130 bird species. The landscape alternates between savannah, lagoons and rock formations. The park has one of the highest leopard densities in the world.
On request, an English-speaking wildlife biologist accompanies your tour. He knows the park, contextualises animal behaviour and places great importance on respectful wildlife observation. If you are wondering whether a safari fits an Ayurveda cure: many guests find the combination of stillness and wilderness particularly enriching.

Bundala National Park is approximately 25 minutes from Thaulle Resort and is a paradise for bird watching. Flamingos, pelicans, kingfishers and numerous water birds can be observed here in a quiet atmosphere – a gentle complement to your Ayurveda cure.
Bundala often feels quieter and lighter than a major safari. This is precisely what makes the park ideal for guests who prefer gentle nature experiences. Photographers appreciate the soft light and the expanse of the lagoon landscape.

Udawalawe National Park lies around 60 kilometres from the resort and offers the best chances for elephant sightings in Sri Lanka. A day trip suited to guests who want a more immersive wildlife experience.
Udawalawe is known for its large elephant herds and open grassland. You can observe the feeding of wild elephants at close range. The excursion requires more travel time but rewards with lasting impressions.

Kataragama is one of Sri Lanka’s most significant pilgrimage sites and unites Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim traditions in one place. Reachable in around 30 minutes, Kataragama offers living spirituality, rituals and a remarkable atmosphere – especially in the morning and evening.
Arriving here is not a typical excursion but a quiet shift in perspective. Architectural highlights such as the Temple Kiri Vehera and the Shrine Maha Devale have drawn pilgrims and visitors for centuries. Kataragama lies on the same longitude as Tibet’s holy Mount Kailash. On the streets you encounter langur monkeys and ceremonially adorned temple elephants.
Especially for couples, a visit to Kataragama can be a valuable addition to shared cure time.
Distance: approx. 30 minutes

Tissamaharama is only a ten-minute drive from the resort and reveals the everyday life of the region. Markets, small shops, the ruins of Chandragiri and the old royal palace make the town interesting for guests who want to experience Sri Lanka beyond the typical highlights.
The visit works well as a short, uncomplicated outing. You gain a direct impression of Sinhalese daily life without committing half a day.

Kirinda Beach is reachable in roughly ten minutes on the complimentary resort shuttle. There you will find ocean, openness and a rhythm that differs from the quiet lake. Beach, snorkelling, the clifftop temple, the fish market and the infinity pool by the sea can all be combined.
The shuttle runs daily at 10:00 AM (return 12:00 PM) and 4:00 PM (return 6:00 PM). Depending on the tides, you can swim in the Indian Ocean or explore the underwater world while snorkelling. Snorkelling equipment is available on request through the resort. Close to the beach, the Kirinda Temple sits on a rock – a popular spot for sunset.

Yoda Lake sits directly beside Thaulle Resort and is ideal for quiet walks, bird watching and still moments between treatments. Sea eagles, water buffaloes and the slow pace of the landscape create an atmosphere that many guests experience as part of the cure itself.
Those who want to experience the lake more actively can take a catamaran ride on request. For everyone else, a walk along the shore is enough to clear the mind.

Within Thaulle Resort itself, there are experiences that fit naturally into an Ayurveda stay. You can visit the organic farm, learn about herbs, vegetables and cultivation or plant your own tree. Additionally, you can explore the in-house jewellery workshop with locally crafted designs.
These activities are deliberately close, quiet and uncomplicated – small experiences without travel time.
